The Outfit Took it Off

grinder

It was the 3rd annual Burlesque show the Outfit hosted entitled, “Take off your Outfit.” I have seen a few themed Burlesque shows in the past but this was my first time experience the Outfit’s event.

The venue, Cobra Lounge, was packed. I have to admit that I was a little nervous walking in the door since I volunteered to get up on the stage, but that changed when Sneer and Loathing and Silkk Assassin greeted me at the door with their lovely smiles. I missed the first couple of acts. One of which was Miss Tamale Sepp who I happen to know through graduate school, luckily, she performed her awesome grinder act later on in the show.

“Minnie the moocher is my favorite song and I thought it would be a great way to get the crowd to interact.” Based on the howling and cheering, I’d say she succeeded.

Coming into the league last year as the formal “baby” has me excited for this Saturday’s burlesque night for a number of reasons. Most importantly I won’t have to duck into a bathroom stall when the door guy comes around for Outfit ID checks. Admittedly that was me during last year’s Spaghetti Wrestling, but I was so nervous about being underaged that I skipped out on the 2012 Take Off Your Outfit burlesque night all together. Instead I waited patiently for the Flickr pictures to surface and lamented over the missed fun on my own time.

All Bout Everything

May 11, 2013. Bout day. Although we start playing at 7pm, for me, as soon as I wake up, I’m in bout day mentality. Everything is about the bout- bout day breakfast, bout day shower, bout day outfit, etc. The reality of my bout day begins around 3pm with a stop at the storage facility and then off to the field house, where I’ll spend the next 7 hours putting together the floor, handing out programs, cleaning up, and of course, playing roller derby.
