Scream Printer

#0828

Q: How did you first become involved in roller derby? A: I'm a screen printer, and my company, Replica Chicago (a.k.a. REP CHI), started making shirts, hoodies, and merch for The Outfit in 2009. I attended a bout in 2010, and thought it looked like a blast, so I bought some skates and joined The Family later that year. Since I got into The Outfit by way of screen printing, my derby name had to be "Scream Printer". Q: What is your favorite thing about the Chicago Outfit? A: Being surrounded by talented, generous, caring, and remarkable individuals. Derby brings some pretty spectacular people out of the woodwork, and I am constantly inspired by The Outfit. It's pretty neat having a 60+, rotating group of best friends that are automatically there for you whenever you need a hug.

Q: Is there anyone that you would like to thank for your total derby domination? A: Mr. Scream, for putting up with the time commitment and involvement that derby takes.

Q: What advice do you have for aspiring derby gals? A: Quit thinking about it, and get on some skates already! If you start now -instead of six months from now- you'll have that many months of practice under your belt before you even revisit the idea. Also, if you start right now, you'll be more than ready for Bootcamp and Recruitment in the Fall. I had no roller skating experience, and could never stick to a workout routine; So if I can do this, you can, too!

Q: What do you do when you are not playing roller derby? A: I have a retail store on Milwaukee Avenue, in Jefferson Park. You'll probably find me there. On Sunday mornings, alongside other Family members, I help coach the best junior roller derby league there is: The Chicago Riots.

Q: How has being part of a team impacted your life on and off the track? A: It has been an incredible experience to have an entire network of wonderful people that support each other mentally, emotionally and physically.

Q: Most embarrassing moment on skates? A: First time skating on a slippery floor, I got called to the box and couldn't get up off the floor. Slow motion falling and tripping, like I was in Super Mario ice land.

Q: Best after party moment? A: All of them! Particularly when tacos are involved.

Q: Favorite Outfit event? A: The openers.

Q: Signature move? A: Sharp shoulders.

Q: Derby crush? A: http://chicagooutfitrollerderby.com/the-family/skaters

Q: Prebout rituals? A: I eat lots of pumpkin seeds, and don't think about skating.

Q: Postbout rituals? A: Replay everything that just happened in my head, while eating more pumpkin seeds.

Q: Fun fact about yourself? A: I went to school for Law and Society.

Q: What is the significance of your derby name and number? A: I'm a screen printer, and on August 28th, I moved from New York City to Chicago and met Mr. Scream. We were married exactly four years later, on 08/28.
