Short and Sweet

As skaters, we’re plagued with all sorts of issues, especially with (wait for it….) FEET!

Up until recently, I’ve taken the simple pleasure of being able to walk, let alone skate, for granted.

To those with toe/feet/ankle problems, pains, surgeries, etc.  -  THIS ONE GOES OUT TO YOU! :)

...and to Badger to the Bone, for being my foot buddy for the past 2 months since we both had to wear that goofy shoe. (That’s her on the right!)

You’re the big toe to my pinky toe, and I can’t wait to skate with you! Thank you for keeping me sane!

I’d also like to add that a year ago, I wrote a Valentine’s blog post on my derby crushes. I was a newb, with no prior skating experience (other than those blue and yellow Fisher Price skates when I was 6), and barely knew anyone. Today, I’ve grown close to a group of amazing girls who I’m honored to have as friends. They’ve helped me through ups and downs, offered me advice, and given me words of wisdom and encouragement. Some of them even saw me walk down the aisle on a rainy Halloween night. I love all of you, and I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t force myself to go to the new recruit boot camps in 2012?  Probably have, like, zero friends and no fun is the answer to that question.

I’m looking forward to another year full of awesome bouts, crazy after parties, road trips, Cracker Barrel breakfasts, mandatory iced coffee runs, motel swimming, karaoke, volunteering, protest marches, and all the other stuff that goes into roller derby and spending time with the best people ever.
