Join the Family! Boot Camps and Tryouts!

See all the Outfit skaters in this picture? All rookies, all started at last year's boot camp. That's me in the back, sitting on that jammer. Aw, yeah.

But first, some editorial: do it!

We want you to join the Family. We want to meet more tough, funny, determined, amazing women -- like ourselves -- and we want to play some roller derby with you. You can do this. Speaking as a league member who decided exactly one year ago to attend the boot camps, hoping I'd maybe skate well enough to make the team -- it's one of the best things I ever did. I've learned so much and come so far in only a year, and I'm not the only one. We have skaters who tentatively showed up at boot camp who just returned from skating with the Syndicate at playoffs in Oregon last weekend. I started my first season hoping to get rostered somewhere at some point, and I ended my rookie season with a big win in my ninth bout, alongside women I can't imagine not knowing.

So if you're thinking about it, if you're on the fence, if you're worried about knowing enough or being good enough -- GO. We'll show you everything you need in plenty of time for tryouts. This is a Family you want to be a part of, and we want you there. RSVP on our Facebook event page -- http://tinyurl.com/outfitbootcamp2013 -- and read all the info below so you're ready to get on skates on November 4th.

See you there!

The Chicago Outfit Skater Recruitment Boot Camp

The Chicago Outfit will be hosting five 3 hour boot camps from November 4 through December 2nd, 7:30pm-10:30pm.

If you're a woman 18 or older and interested in learning the skills you'll need to take to the track, these boot camps are for you! We will teach skaters basic skate skills, advanced skills, and the WFTDA minimum skills. Boot camps will cost $5 per day, due at the beginning of each session.

All attendees will be required to bring the following items with her to each session she attends. If you do not have all the required safety gear, you will not be allowed to skate:

-Quad skates (speed skates, not inline) -Helmet* -Mouth Guard -Knee Pads* -Elbow Pads* -Wrist Guards* -Water Bottle -Government-issued picture identification, such as driver’s license, State ID, or passport (first-time attendees only)

*must have hard protective shell or inserts

We require members of our league to purchase skater insurance through the WFTDA, but WFTDA insurance is not required for the boot camps or the advanced tryouts. Instead, there will be a waiver you will be required to fill out.

Tryouts will be Monday December 9th and Thursday December 12th. (A new event will be made for tryouts soon!) Skaters can come and try out even if they didn't come to the recruitment boot camps.

You will be tested against WFTDA minimum skills and additional skills that you learned throughout the boot camps.

WFTDA minimum skills can be found here: http://wftda.com/resources/wftda-minimum-skill-requirements.pdf

All boot camps and the advanced tryouts will be held at the following location:

Fleetwood Roller Rink 7231 Archer Avenue Summit Argo, IL 60501
