Chicago Outfit Roller Derby: Jamming Against Cancer at the ACS Walk and Roll

CHICAGO, IL - FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2011 - Chicago Outfit Roller Derby will be skating against cancer in the American Cancer Society’s Walk and Roll 2011, held on Saturday, May 15, in downtown Chicago.  This is the Outfit’s third year raising funds for the American Cancer Society.

Walk and Roll is the longest running cancer fundraiser in the state of Illinois. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event. Participants will be meeting at Grant Park and walking, skating, or biking along the Chicago lakefront and around downtown.  The Chicago Outfit will be taking on the 10-mile skating route.  A 5-mile walking route and 15-mile cycling route are also available.

The American Cancer Society’s Walk and Roll 2011 is taking place the day after the league’s home opener double-header bout on Saturday, May 14, at the Windy City Fieldhouse (2367 W. Logan Blvd.) against the Tri-City Rollergirls of Ontario and the So Ill Rollergirls of Southern Illinois.  Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door.

In addition to fundraising for the American Cancer Society, the women’s roller derby league has donated to organizations such as Ignite the Spirit, Girls Rock! Chicago, and the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN).  The Outfit has also formed a charity partnership with the Howard Brown Health Center for the duration of the 2011 home season.

“I’m extremely proud to be a member of an organization like the Outfit,” said Angela “Apostrofiend” Pasha. “We’re a very tight-knit family.  In addition to taking care of each other, it’s important for us to take care of others by helping the community.”
