March 3, 2009

Angie (aka GoGo Beware Ft. Wayne Derby Girls) and her son are in need of all the prayers and positive energy they can get.

Angie's 7 yr old son, Blaise has a renal disease that keeps his kidneys from working. Blaise has been hooked up to dialysis every day for a while now.

They thought their prayers were answered.... they received a phone call at 1am Monday morning (2/23/09) that Blaise was to receive a kidney transplant. They had 4 hours to pack their bags and get to Riley Childrens Hospital, 2 1/2 hrs away. Blaise underwent a 5 hr surgery and, as of Wednesday, everything was looking good. Angie had hoped he'd be moved to a recovery facility or even home on Friday.

Blaise took a big turn for the worse. His little body has started to reject the new kidney. The FSGS which destroyed his kidneys has begun to attack his new one.

He will start Pherisis Treatment today. This is a process that will take out his white blood cells and replace them with healthier ones. He will be hooked up constantly for this therapy. It is experimental and harsh in a way that Chemotherapy is harsh. There is around a 50 50 chance that this process will stop the FSGS.

He needs our prayers now more than ever. Angie will have to remain in Indianapolis for an uncertain amount of time... at least a month. Her family is caring for her other young son in Ft. Wayne while she is gone.

Here is an explanation of FSGS...

October 31, 2008 - NOT YOUR MAMA'S RINK: ROLLER DERBY HAS COME ALONG WAY, BABY

"There are many men out there who like to sit and watch an entertaining episode - so to speak - of the WWE. To them, it is the man's soap opera - an evening of watching a scripted theatrical wrestling tournament. Well, back in the day, that is how people enjoyed Roller Derby as well. But times have changed and so has Roller Derby..." Read more at the Daily Herald...
