Chicago Outfit Roller Derby: Jamming Against Cancer at the ACS Walk and Roll

CHICAGO, IL – FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2011 – Chicago Outfit Roller Derby will be skating against cancer in the American Cancer Society’s Walk and Roll 2011, held on Saturday, May 15, in downtown Chicago.  This is the Outfit’s third year raising funds for the American Cancer Society.

Walk and Roll is the longest running cancer fundraiser in the state of Illinois. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event. Participants will be meeting at Grant Park and walking, skating, or biking along the Chicago lakefront and around downtown.  The Chicago Outfit will be taking on the 10-mile skating route.  A 5-mile walking route and 15-mile cycling route are also available.

The American Cancer Society’s Walk and Roll 2011 is taking place the day after the league’s home opener double-header bout on Saturday, May 14, at the Windy City Fieldhouse (2367 W. Logan Blvd.) against the Tri-City Rollergirls of Ontario and the So Ill Rollergirls of Southern Illinois.  Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door.

In addition to fundraising for the American Cancer Society, the women’s roller derby league has donated to organizations such as Ignite the Spirit, Girls Rock! Chicago, and the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN).  The Outfit has also formed a charity partnership with the Howard Brown Health Center for the duration of the 2011 home season.

“I’m extremely proud to be a member of an organization like the Outfit,” said Angela “Apostrofiend” Pasha. “We’re a very tight-knit family.  In addition to taking care of each other, it’s important for us to take care of others by helping the community.”

The Chicago Outfit Roller Derby Hits The Windy City Fieldhouse For Their Home Season Opener

Chicago, IL – 05 02, 2011 – On Saturday, May 14th, The Chicago Outfit Roller Derby will roll into the Windy City Fieldhouse, in Logan Square (Chicago, IL), to kick off their 2011 Home Season with a double header.  The Syndicate, The Chicago Outfit’s A-Team, is scheduled to play The Tri-City Rollergirls from Ontario, while the Shade Brigade, B-Team, will play the Southern Illinois Roller Girls.  C.O.D.A. (Chicago Onyx Dance Alliance) and The Puzzle League Dance Crew will entertain at half-time. Discounted pre-sale tickets available on www.chicagooutfitrollerderby.com, via skater and select vendors.  Full-price tickets may be purchased at the door.  Doors at 6pm, bout will commence at 7 PM, immediately after special guest, Eric Georgevich of King Sparrow, sings the National Anthem.  Windy City Fieldhouse is located at 2367 West Logan Boulevard, and offers free parking.

Partial proceeds from all 2011 home bouts will benefit the Howard Brown Health Center, one of the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender organizations in the nation. Howard Brown focuses on eliminating the disparities in healthcare that exist in the LGBT community, by providing primary medical care and HIV/STD prevention, among other services.

Following the bout, The Chicago Outfit will host an afterparty at Cobra Lounge, with free bus transportation from Windy City Fieldhouse and drink specials.  Cobra Lounge is located at 235 North Ashland Avenue.

Chicago Outfit Roller Derby anuncia su nueva alianza con un centro de salud que sirve a la comunidad LGBT.

Chicago, IL – 25 de abril, 2011 – Chicago Outfit Roller Derby estará cooperando con el Centro Howard Brown durante la temporada completa del 2011.

Una porción de las ganacias de los cinco juegos en casa este año se donará a Howard Brown, una de las organizaciones más grande en el pais para lesbianas, gays, transexuales y bisexualses.  El centro de salud se enfoca en eliminar las disparidades en el cuidado de salud de los individuos LGBT proporcionando cuidado médico y prevención del VIH/SIDA, así como otros servicios.

“El Outfit se enorgullese de ser una liga que apoya a la comunidad LGBT, “ afirmó Bethany Johnson, una patinadora con el pseudónimo ”Meg Gyver”.

En años pasados, el Chicago Outfit ha donado parte de las ganacias de cada partido a distintas organizaciones incluyendo Ignite the Spirit, Girls Rock! Chicago Outfit Roller Derby Announces Charity Partnership with LGBT Health Center

Chicago, IL – 04 25, 2011 – Chicago Outfit Roller Derby will be partnering with the Howard Brown Health Center for the entirety of their 2011 home season.

Partial proceeds from all five home bouts this year will go toward Howard Brown, one of the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender organizations in the nation. The health center focuses on eliminating disparities in health care experienced by LGBT individuals by providing primary medical care and HIV/STD prevention, among other services.

“The Outfit takes pride in being a very queer-friendly league,” noted Bethany Johnson, who skates as Meg Gyver.

In past years, The Chicago Outfit donated proceeds from each bout to separate organizations, including Ignite the Spirit, Girls Rock! Chicago, and the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN). This year, the roller derby league decided to make a much larger contribution to a single organization by forming a partnership with Howard Brown Health Center.

The Chicago Outfit home opener for their fourth season is on May 14, 2011, at the Windy City Fieldhouse (2367 W. Logan Blvd) with a double header against the Tri-City Rollergirls of Ontario and the Southern Illinois Rollergirls.
